24 hours Blood BankCirculation of blood in a human body is essential for sustenance of life and therefore blood transfusion has acquired greater importance.
The Karpagam Medical College Hospital has established a blood bank, which has been approved by the Director of Drugs Control, Tamil Nadu and the Director General of Drugs Control (Central), New Delhi.
The blood collected from healthy and eligible donors of both sexes, after thorough testing, is stored in the blood bank for use in any emergency cases like patients undergoing surgeries or for those injured in road accidents needing transfusion of blood.
Blood components like fresh frozen plasma, concentrated RBCs, platelet rich concentrate, cryoprecipitate and stored plasma are available in the Karpagam Hospital.
The following screening tests are done on the collected blood:
- Hepatitis B Surface Antigen (HBs Ag)
- Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)
- Hepatitis C Virus (HCV)
- STS (VDRL)
- Malarial Parasite
- Haemoglobin
- Packed Cell Volume (PCV)
- Blood Grouping & Rh typing
